-Description- This is my tribute to the 2012 Venus transit across the sun.
The rarity of such an event, when a planet such as Mercury or Venus transits between the earth and the sun with all the beauty in the event itself and the science behind it this is a hugely powerful happening.
-From a Scientific perspective
This transit gives us insight to finding exo-planets around other stars as well as continues to prove Copernicus and his theory as genius. We live in a very large universe as a planet in a solar system in a galaxy. We rotate around a host star and this transit makes this more evident and it increases our insight into detection of exo-planets transitting across other stars.
-From an artistic/ philosophical point of view
This painting first and foreost is depicting this rare and scientifically/ aesthetically beautiful event, the transit of a planet across a star.
Beyond that, I again use apes as my figures, no ape in particular, just "ape-like" beings in "human-like roles" in the picture. This picture is infused with space and television/broadcast based themes with the video screens displaying "LIVE" as well as the cameras.
The reason for both is that this is obviously a space event and this is a scene, a setup broadcast as all of my recent pictures have been.
Man is an ape and the world he lives in is a set.
Reality is bendable and Man is just an animal.
As for the corpse in the chair within the transparent shape, the UFO in the sky and the mechanichal apeman/orange arangutan color
These are my own personal touches.
This entire painting was inspired by my visit to Canada with my GF in may 2012 as I was listening to her and her Spanish band "Maga Negra" practice and i just started sketching this.
The arangutan/ mechanical ape is a shaman, a symbol of somewhat of a leader or idol. although not real, much like many of the characters in "The Truman Show" which has always been a huge inspiration to me.
The UFO is a personal thing fr me that I witnessed with my girlfriend while in Canada. To this day I cannot identify what it was and I am an avid stargazer with quite a bit of stargazing and large telescope use under my belt. Its in the upper right corner as a reddish/ brown color. It looked exactly like that.
The corpse in the chair is an example of time travel of some sort, im not entirely sure why I felt compelled to add this, but it fits in some strange way that I havent even quite figured out.
The corelation between the transit and all of this is that life/ reality isnt as black and white/ straight forward as it appears. Without telescopes we would detect no transit, without innovative thinking we would not relate the transit to exo-planet research
"When I have a terrible need of - shall I say the word - religion. Then I go out and paint the stars"- Vincent Van Gogh
We are all apes living on a permanent ever-changing set.
Thanks for the comment
Fantastic work! Featured in Special-Groups in folder Featured nº 4. (Best works of the group).
The technique you've used for this is great, giving it all a very special style. This exactly how surreal art have to look like!
Keep it up
